The winning nature-writing competition stories!

Our judges were hugely impressed with the creativity of all our story writing competition entries - thank you to everyone who took part!

Winner (5-7 yrs): Tadhg, age 7

Judges' verdict: We loved following the cheerful leaf on his journey through the sky, and the beautifully described characters he met on the way. Nice imagery in the final lines as he rests amongst his fellow autumn leaves, and an uplifting message at the end.

Winner (8-10 yrs): Adeline, age 10

Judges' verdict: Top marks for character name - was she inspired by our very own Eco Warrior Julie? Either way, a super protagonist who sees a problem, makes a change, and ultimately mobilises her community to action. Nicely thought out plotline with a strong message, and it's always good to have a bit of dialogue and character interaction, so we thought the addition of the old lady and the watering can was excellent.

Winner (11-14 yrs): Olivia, age 12

Judges' verdict: Beautifully written with a hard-hitting message. Skillful use of language, combining poetry and prose with stark imagery to create a dystopian world where nature has been erased. Full of impact. Excellent.

And a big thank you to our judges: Nancy Peach, Julie Lloyd Evans and Beatrix Rigg
