Greener Padbury has been working with Padbury CE School and the Parish Council to make it possible for the children to enjoy the woods on their doorstep rather than travelling by coach to participate in forest school elsewhere.
We are very excited to say that Padbury Forest School is about to commence! Furthermore, with a grant awarded by Winslow & Villages Community Board, we can fund the training of forest school leaders at school and pre-school so that more children can access this opportunity.
Lucy McFarlane, Headteacher: "From 4th March 2022, we will be walking to Millennium woods every Friday with small groups of children (15 in each group) so that they can experience learning in a forest school environment. The sessions will be led by Laura Fox, a trained forest school teacher joined by Padbury School members of staff. Risk assessments have been completed to ensure the children’s safety while walking and playing in the woods. One of these risks we have needed to think through is dogs in the woods. While we acknowledge the risk of meeting dogs in the woods off the lead, we do not want to preventing the children from having this experience. If dog walkers could help us by keeping their dog under control when walking past this part of the woods where we will be working, we will be very grateful. We will put up clear signage every time we are using a section of the wood so that dog walkers know where and when the Forest School is taking place. We hope that the children will get a lot out of visiting the woods and not only learn about the woods themselves but learn other key skills such as working together, caring for our environment and challenging themselves to try new things."
