We've got lots of fun stuff planned for the October half-term: three different events, all enjoying Padbury's green spaces, and all free! We hope you can join us for at least one of them. Click on the button below to book your space.
Sunday 27th October: Exciting Bat and Moth Experience!
Millennium Woods, 3.45-5.30pm
This time of year, bats can be seen in abundance in Halloween decorated homes, they may have a spooky reputation, but they are in fact superheroes of our ecosystems. Bats rely on our night-time flying moths as a vital food source, but moths also receive a bad press as brown boring cloth-devouring pests - but moths matter!
If you want to find out more about the importance of these misunderstood creatures and how to conserve them then please join us on the 27th for an alternative Halloween experience. The walk will begin with a creative interactive introduction at Padbury playground followed by a walk into the woods at twilight.
This will be a fun, creative and informative session suitable for all ages – we would like to warmly welcome family groups and individuals to join us in taking the spook out of our very important creatures of the night!
Wednesday 30th October: Go Wild in the Woods! (Plants, Potions and Spooky Decorations)
Millennium Woods, 10.30am - 12pm
Take part in some spooky science in the woods! Join Julie to investigate the power of plant chemicals throughout history and make your own woodland perfume, fertilizer potion or invisible ink and finish with some completely natural healthy plant drinks. We will also be making spooky decorations from natural or recycled materials.
Under 8's need to be accompanied; advisory age: pre-school to 12 years.
Wednesday 30th October: Go Wild! (Fire and Food)
St Mary's Allotments, Padbury, 2-4pm
Thanks to St Mary’s church and the allotment manager, we are holding this special session at the Padbury allotment site which offers a real ‘mini’ woodland experience.
An exciting afternoon of ‘food and fire’. Learn how fire lighting has evolved since the first humans, participate in the ‘Great British spark off’, toast a tasty treat and take home a planted veg pot.
Please note that owing to the activities, the minimum age for this session is 8 years old.
All three sessions are funded by Gawcott Fields Community Solar and the Greener Padbury Group who recognise the importance of connecting with and caring for our natural environment.
